NOTES:
- Opted for the 3G/4G (5G is about EUR 1,000 extra)
- Reasoning is that Starlink will have a good solution for cruisers in couple years, hopefully before we go into the Pacific
- We only need data (can make calls with WhatsApp…)
- The antenna will be installed on top of the mast (17m), so beyond the 10m cable length to limit noise.

TECHNOLOGY
Router Throughput
Throughput is the actual amount of data passing through media or a connection (different from bandwidth ‘capability’)
LTE Category
The speed you experience isn't just about the what the network can offer, it's also about what your mobile device can accept. The higher the Category number, the faster the speeds. Category devices are often shorted to 'Cat', so you may see Category 6 devices labelled as Cat 6.
Max Download
(Mbps) | Max Upload
(Mbps) | |
Category 4 | ~150 | ~50 |
Category 6 | ~300 | ~75 |
Category 20 | ~2,000 | ~315 |
Band 71
Band 71 is the 600MHz frequency. The lowest frequency band available for cellular data in the United States, T-Mobile purchased the rights to the band in 2017 and have been using it ever since to expand their coverage in remote areas. T-Mobile is the only network that can access it.
SPEEDFUSION
Peplink’s patented SpeedFusion technology is a powerful VPN tunnel equipped with a variety of technologies such as Hot Failover, WAN Smoothing, Bandwidth Bonding, … This technology empowers users with the flexibility and tools required to achieve unbreakable connectivity in any vertical or scenario in which they might find themselves.

Versatile Single Cellular with High Port Capacity
The MAX BR1 Pro comes with 4-port LAN switch and automatic failover, making it an ideal choice for deployments that demand outstanding reliability and flexibility.
Connect Everything Affordably
The BR1 PRO features 4x GE LAN ports to connect your wired clients, and 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi to connect your wireless clients. All this in rugged DIN mount compatible enclosure.
Fits Anywhere
At 5.1 x 4.3 x 1.6 inches, the BR1 Pro can fit into tight spaces. It can also be mounted on DIN rails from different angles, so it fits anywhere that the rails can be installed.
Mobile Ready
The BR1 Pro can accept power via a terminal block and is equipped with GPS. It also supports Ignition Sense, enabling it to power up or down depending on the vehicle’s ignition status.
Primary Line with LTE Backup
In case of a WAN failure, SpeedFusion Hot Failover technology powers the MAX BR1 Pro for instant failover between wired and cellular links as needed to keep your connection stable and fast.
4-Port LAN Switch
The four-port GE LAN switch allows the BR1 Pro to be dropped into any network transparently, without needs for extra cabling. Perfect for Branch Networking.
Dual-Band Wi-Fi
The MAX BR1 Pro comes with embedded dual radio 802.11n Wi-Fi AP. It operates both in 2.4Ghz and 5GHz bands concurrently, reaching 300Mbps.
Redundant SIM Slots
Device utilizes redundant SIM slots with automatic switching for reliable network. You can also set the MAX BR1 PRO to automatically switch SIM cards when you’re in danger of exceeding a data cap. It also allows you to travel across borders without changing SIM cards manually.
Topology
- The BR1 PRO provides 4-Port GE LAN switch and 11a Wi-Fi.
- In case of Landline, failure, SpeedFusion instantly and seamlessly switches traffic to 4G LTE backup; for always-on networking.
- Integrate easily with existing wireless networks. The BR1 PRO is compatible with wireless access points from Pepwave as well as third-party AP manufacturers.
